The 169 BAR IS AVAILABLE FOR PARTIES AND EVENTS!

_______________

MUSICIANS AND BANDS wishing to inquire about booking a show please read through the following.

The fabulous NEW ORLEANS inspired 169 BAR is open to booking the same inspired performers; acoustic genres of the world, R&B, soul, soul/jazz, be-bop swing jazz, funk, latin.

We are a 80 year old historic and famous (infamous) neighborhood bar. We are not a venue with a stage built in a separate room. We have one big room with the bar, the pool table where everyone performs, people listen, talk amongst themselves and relax with their drinks, their friends and our great play list.

It is for this reason that bands must perform at a volume coinsistant with keeping customers from walking out. We prefer to book one performer a night at around 9pm. We prefer to book 30 minute sets, though we let people play longer with good turnout.

Being chill and having a good time is what we are about. For the performer or musician suited to and understanding our intimate setting and what we do, there is not a better room to play and have fun with your friends.

We provide full exceptional sound system and studio quality mics, house engineer with audio recordings available.

Back line features re-built and mic'ed Bauer & Sons 1939 upright piano, Gretch drums and hardware (bring cymbals), congos, Sansamp guitar & bass preamps.

MINIMUMS, SET TIMES, LENGTHS & PAYOUTS

We ask that all performers (except those we hire) bring a minimum amount of 20 people to play. You can pass our "$5 SUGGESTED TIP" bucket or you can charge at the door, you set your door charge & get everything but the first $20.

THE SMALL PRINT:

Though we enjoy personal one on one communication as much as the next guy, we do not book over the phone...emails are a record of agreement.

In the course of our email communications we ask that you maintain the original string and to not start a new string each time you email.

It will be assumed that you have read and fully understand our booking and sound policies and in all cases performances will be booked under these terms and no other.

We advertise all set times 30 minutes earlier than actual stage time and you should too.

We do not do "sound checks" in a open bar; line checks only right before you go on.

You MUST use the Sansamp pre-amps; do not bring your amps. If you normally "rock out" you need to be prepared for a simi-acoustic set, our pre-amps are not equal replacements for your guitar amps in volume or crunch and are not meant to be.

Drummers MUST play at lower than normal volume and MUST use the house kit (but you can add to it) We prefer bundles (hot rods) or brushes, if you do not own them we will provide them.

If you charge at the door our person tallies and collects your money for you, for this they get the first $20 after that you get 100%. Unless you specifically request a door charge amount in an email when booking or before your set none will be charged. If there is going to be a charge you can check this by looking at your name on our calendar; there should be a dollar sign next to it, if there is not please email me and remind me to put your charge on. Finally, it is your responsibility on the night of the show to double check to make sure your people are being charged for your set.

We only charge your chosen amount from people who say they came to see you. We do not charge your amount from other performers or their friends, walk-ins or neighborhood regulars.

We ask that you be honestly confident in your turnout...

PLEASE DO NOT EXAGGERATE!!

Our 20 person minimum should NOT be the maximum you could conceivably draw in the unlikely event that every friend you know, every person on your email list and all your relatives show up. Our minimum is the amount you could easily draw in your sleep, without even trying.

The set length times are based on you reaching the 20 person minimum, if you bring substantially more than the minimum you can play longer. If you bring below the minimum your set may be delayed, shortened or canceled.

You must be 21 and have a valid I.D. even musicians, unless you contact the 169 Bar before you book the show!!

Somes booking rules above may not apply to swing, be-bop or latin jazz performers that we have made special arrangements with.

Looking for experienced, in shape dancers to do interpretive modern jazz dance to 60's soul-jazz, funk-soul and Harlem swing/ragtime, in a fun early London pre-hippie swinging 60's go-go booth setting. So clothes of that era and the 70's are a plus, prefer short skirts or dresses. What ever you wear just dont wear 80's!! not into shiny lycra hot pants. We expect sexy but no burlesque or stripper style moves, no nudity, not a gentleman's club. Average mixed crowd of men and women simi-hipsters. We're looking to have dancing from 11pm to 3am, which comes out to roughly six 25 minute sets with 15 minute breaks, with two dancers alternating. On the weekends we pay $40 per 25 minute set, minimum two sets but normaly three, plus you keep whatever tips you make. Exceptional dancers can end up doing 5 sets.
