Welcome to the historic 80+ year old, funky and infamous, "169 BAR" (aka "Bloody Bucket", "Bucket Of Blood") The last and oldest original bars in one of the last original neighborhoods in Manhattan.
Purchased by former New Orleans resident a nd musician Charles Hanson in 2006, the 169 Bar is now taking its métier visualy and aurally from that city, which is reflected in its playlist; Funk (aka Meters) Deep Funk, Jazz-Funk, Disco-Funk, Funk-Funk, World & Afrobeat, Big Band, Be-bop, Latin & Surf. Featuring artist that you never hear anywhere else such as Mose Alison, Jimmy Smith & McGriff, "Groove" Holmes, Louis Armstrong, Dr John, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Elvis, Bridget Bardot, LuLu, Nancy Sinatra, Serge Gainbourg, Leonard Cohen, Parliment & Johnny "Guitar" Watson, AWB & Tower of Power.
Open from 4pm to 4am with happy hour everyday from 4 to 7:30pm; $3 off well booze, $2 off of everything else.
Original 169 BAR Drinks! First created and served by Charles from his unique and first hand perspective on BOOZE and Absinthe; The "Bloody Gargoyle" (Le Tourment Absinthe (yes its real), fresh lemon juice and a red wine float). For a late night pick-me-up The "Muddy Bucket" (Freeze dried coffee, Le Tourment Absinthe, Galliano and Baileys). For a summer time cool down; a Frozen regular or creamy "Apple Bubba" (Vodka, Puckers, one whole apple and a pinch of Baileys) and last but not least & Charles's fav the "Hell Boy Margarita" (Salted rim Martini glass, Bulliet Bourbon/Patron Tequila, Cointreau Orange Liqueur, equal parts fresh Lime, Grapefruit and Orange Juice) YUM! YUM! We also feature Peroni & Paulaner draft beer.
POOl TABLE, DARTS & A FISH! named "Jeff" who will chase your finger like he's a puppy and stare into your soul...yes, he's a fish...no, you wont believe it, round out the fun & festivities.
LIVE MUSIC! Recently used for an episode performance by "Flight of the Conchords" (episode 204) the fabulous New Orleans inspired "169" looks for same in its live music performers; All Acoustic genres of the world, Latin, R&B, Soul & Jazz-Funk. The 169 hosts a variety of live musical performers of local and international talent nightly. Late night after the performers check for our guest DJ line up.There is never a door charge for the general public!!

We are now booking performers directly under 169 Bar Music Management policies and not those of outside promoters who used the 169 that you may have dealt with past.
Recently used for filmed episode performance by "Flight of the Conchords" the fabulous NEW ORLEANS inspired 169 BAR is looking for the same inspired performers. Acoustic genres of the world, Latin, R&B, Soul, Jazz-Funk also Alt/Pop/Rock playing acoustic/electric sets, Electronic-Dance & Caberet/Burlesque
We provide full sound system w/engineer, audio and 4 camera video recordings are available.
Back line features re-built Bauer & Sons 1939 upright piano w/pick-ups, Gretch drums & Sansamp guitar & bass preamps.
EXPECTED MINIMUMS, SET LENGTHS & PAYOUTS
30 minute sets, extended or multiplied depending on....turnout.Sun, Mon, Tues & Wed - 10 person minimum.
Thurs -15 person minimum
Fri & Sat - 20 person minimum, Sat evening matinee 10 person minimum.
On any day, you set your door charge & after collection you get 100%, or just pass our "$5 SUGGESTED TIP" bucket.
THE SMALL PRINT:
We advertise all set times 30 minutes earlier than actual stage time and you should too.
We do not do "sound checks" only line checks right before you go on.
The early slot is reserved for performers without a full drum set, lite percussion is OK.
You MUST use the Sansamp pre-amps; do not bring your amps.
Drummers MUST play at lower than normal volume and MUST use the house kit (but you can add to it) We prefer bundles (hot rods) or brushes, if you do not own them we will provide them.
If you charge at the door our door person tallies and collects your money for you, for this he gets the first $20 after that you get 100%. Unless you specificaly request a door charge amount in an email when booking none will be charged. If you insist on a charge and have so little people to see you that you have less than $20 to pay the door man to collect the charge, you must pay the doorman the difference before you go on.
We only charge your chosen amount from people who say they came to see you. We do not charge your amount from other performers or their friends, walk-ins or neighborhood regulars. We do not "hire" or pay "garentees" to performers.
We ask that you be honestly confident in your turnout. Its much better to under estimate than to exaggerate. The 30 minute set times are based on you reaching your minimum, if you bring substantialy more than your minimum you can play longer, If you bring FAR below the minimum your set may be delayed, shortened or in the worst case senario, canceled.
You must be 21 and have a valid I.D. even musicians unless you contact the 169 Bar before hand!!
